Interviewing Strategy

When I was looking at the interview tips I couldn't help but think about my first interview and why I got the job. The first two tips to having a great first interview is having passion and a good attitude. I think that these are good pieces of advice you should always doing things that you're passionate about and that shouldn't be different when it comes to an interview either. The chances are that if you are passionate to interview for a job position than you are going to be passionate about doing your job as well.  The same can be said for your attitude. When having a good attitude during the interview you are more than likely to have a good attitude when n the job site so I understand why employers take these two things into consideration.

  1. Tell me about yourself? Well I am senior in college currently working hard at getting my degree in psychology and am maintaining 3.4 GPA while working at the gap full time. I am also born and raised in San Francisco and feel that this has given me a very unique perspective on life and an ability to handle the hustle and bustle of the city and all that it entail. Which I can go on about for hours!
  2. Why should I hire you? I think that I am the best for this position. I not only have the experience that is necessary for this job I have a passion for this job and I think this is why I am best for the job. After working for the gap for 4 years I have developed a love for the people, product and the company and I think that this gives me the upper hand when it comes to the other candidates. They don't know and feel for the gap like I do.
  3. What is your long range objective? I want to grow and learn at this company. It has been such a huge part of my life and i don't want hat to change. I eventually want to take what I learn through this merchandising internship and become the head women merchandiser.
  4. How has your education prepared you for your career? I feel that my education has taught me several things that I can put towards this career. For example I have learned how to manage my time well between homework and tests. In getting my degree in psychology I have been taught about the inner workings of human beings what motivates them and so on and I think that this knowledge will give an edge over other candidates.
  5. Are you a team player? 100% I am a team player. I am constantly being put in positions where I have to work with others weather that being through school or work.
  6. Have you ever had problems with a boss or professor? How was it resolved? Yes I have had an issue with a superior, it wasn't anything major but it solved through communication. I was able to approach them and have a productive conversation and listen to their viewpoint about the issues that we were having. From there we no longer had any issues.
  7. What is your greatest weakness? I think that my greatest weakness is my concept of time, I am not good with telling time and predicting how much time a certain task will take but I have started to work hard at correcting this for instance I've become obsessed with time how long it takes me to do simple tasks like getting to and from work. I also have started to set timers for task, both of these have slowly allowed me to strengthen my concept in time.
  8. If I were to ask your professors (or your boss) to describe you, what would they say? I think that I would be described by my superiors as someone who is always smiling, passionate and outspoken. I am typically a pretty happy go lucky person and I attribute that to the fact that I don’t allow small things to bother me. At the same time when it comes to something that I love I engulfed myself in the work or task and will easily defend myself or others that I care for.
  9. What qualities do you think a successful manager should have? I think that in order to be a successful manager you have to be able to listen well to employees need but also be able to manage those successfully against the needs of the company. I also have to be good leaders and someone who employess can look to as an example.
  10. If you had to live your life over again, what is one thing that you would change? Overall I feel that I am happy with my life and what I've made of it but I think that the one thing that I would change is the time that it has taken me to decide what I want to do as a career. For a while I was lost and didn't have a passion for the things that I wanted in the future, but now that I have found that in wanting to be a merchandising I feel a renewed sense of excitement for my future.
