I watched a variety of videos when embarking on this assignment. I watched two that had to do with my career interests and that was an interview with the editor and chief of seventeen magazine and then the interview segment with psychologist Charles Garfield. The last interview that I watched was that I clicked on out of pour curiosity and that was the interview with flight crew 5202 which was the first all female african american flight crew. I learned a lot from the different videos.
For instance when the editor in chief of the seventeen magazine was asked about being consumed by her job her answer was something that stood out to me. She said that when you love what you're doing you can't become consumed by it. This really resonated with me. I know so many people my age who are putting so much work and energy into jobs that they don't care about or even enjoy. I hope that once I find my career that won't be the case. Another thing that that stood out to me in this interview was that she said that she knew from a young age what she wanted to be when she grew up but lost track of it as she grew up and was influenced by other outside forces like her friends and family. I think that this is also the case with a lot of people nowadays they rather pursue careers that guarantee them money versus happiness. I hope to never have to sacrifice one for the other.
Charles Garfield’s interview was rather short at less than 3 minutes. In his interview he talks about how he went from working in science to psychology and how during this time that was something that was unconventional. “The main thing to knowing what to do is knowing who are” this was the main takeaway for me. I think that it relates back to my last paragraph about loving what you do. I think those who are in careers that they love it's because they know what they like and don't like and that all comes with a certain self awareness.
Lastly the interview with flight crew 5202 was one that I watched because it intrigued me. In their interview that talked about how they quickly became a media spectacle but they also touched on how they overcame adversities to get where they all are. I think what I took away from their interview was to persevere, you might not always have fun within your career but the best way to prove them wrong is with your success.
